Born in Naples Florida, Chris moved to Kellogg Idaho as a teenager to live with his mother and fell in love with Idaho. Chris has spent most of his life in Idaho and has always considered the Gem State his home. He Graduated from Kellogg High School in 2002. After 9/11, Chris felt compelled to serve and protect those he cared about most. He comes from a long line of family members who have served. With the Matthews Family tradition of serving in the Navy, Chris stood up and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise for 6 years. He served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, where he developed as a leader and immediately took on the position of supervisor of his own Work Center as an Interior Communication Electrician. After being Honorably Discharge in 2009, during the Great Recession, Chris pursued earning his degree and working in the healthcare field. While earning his degree, Chris took several courses but notably excelled in Economics and Political Science, developing a clear passion for government. Chris became a Father during his last year of schooling and moved back to Idaho in 2013 to Post Falls, Idaho to put down roots for his family and has lived in Post Falls ever since. He is a devoted father and a devoted Christian and attends Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls.
Education, Career and Community Service
Chris graduated Cum Laude from Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Clinical Laboratory Science. He worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Kootenai Health and is currently employed in the Transfusion Service at Vitalant, our community’s blood center where he works to save lives behind the scenes. Chris has served in the community as Precinct Captain for Precinct 24 for the Kootenai County Democrats, Chaired the Candidate Recruitment Committee for elections in 2018, and currently holds the position of District 3 Chair on the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee and has been involved with the Democratic State Central Committee. Chris worked on Dan Hanks’ Campaign Committee in 2018 in his run for Idaho State House District 3 Seat A. Chris has proudly worked as a volunteer with Reclaim Idaho for Medicaid Expansion and Invest in Idaho Campaign and volunteered for Idahoans for a Fair Wage on their ballot initiative. Currently Chris works as an Admin for Kootenai County COVID-19 Mutual Aid group to help our community come together during the Pandemic for reliable information, support, and help.
